USS Fletcher DD-992 near Honolulu, July 2001

The second USS Fletcher carried on the tradition that was begun by the first Fletcher.  She was commissioned on July 12, 1980 and decommissioned on October 1, 2004.  Her hull was sunk by an Australian submarine northwest of Kauai, Hawaii in a Navy exercise on July 16, 2008.
